About Us

A passion to provide America with good quality tea grew after our family moved from England and found it almost impossible to find an establishment who would provide us not only with loose-leaf tea but boiling water to steep it in! We see a change coming. It is gratifying to see how people appreciate not only the calming and social aspects of drinking tea, but are interested in the overall health benefits of it, too. There's always time for a cuppa, and we hope you find your new favorite tea with us.

A Family Business

When Alan and Pat moved their family to America in the late 1980s, they began a journey of entrepreneurship that led to the becoming one of the foremost purveyors of tea in the Midwest. Alan & Pat helped revitalize the Soulard neighborhood in the 1990s with their real estate company, and they decorated homes across the St. Louis region in the 2000s with their European import furniture business. They then set up The London Tea Room as a place to get a proper cup of tea just like they had back in England.

The Next Generation

Their daughter, Jackie, managed the business since 2009, and she became the owner in 2022. As a certified tea sommelier, Jackie is focused on providing superb loose leaf tea to the U.S.!

You can find Jackie most days at our sister company, The London Tea Room, where she works to ensure guests receive a premiere afternoon tea experience.

The London Tea Merchant is located in the Benton Park neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri, and it is not open to the public. Our office hours are weekdays from 8:30am to 4:30pm. We are closed weekends and all federal holidays.
